Descendant List

John Osterberg was born Johannes Israelsson Österberg 28 October 1843 in Clemetsö Korsholm Vasa finland, the oldest son of Israel Abrahamsson Kock and Ulricka Johansdotter. Nothing is known of his early years in Finland. He first appears in the Swedish Church records in Ramsele Ångermanland Sweden in 1872.

Carolina Larsdotter was born 16 November 1847 in Graväs Frykerud Värmland Sweden, the fifth child of Lars Andersson and Anna Jönsdotter. Her mother died when she was 10 years old. Her father remarried in 1860 and in 1861 Carolina moved from the family, quite likely to go out to work. She is back with the family in 1871. In 1872 She leaves the parish, her destination Ramsele. Here she meets and marries Johannes. She leaves in August and they are married in October. As these two communities are a considerable distance apart, and I can find no record of Johannes in Sweden prior to 1872, one can wonder what drew them together.

Four children were born to them in Ramsele before they decided to emigrate to 'Amerika' in May 1884.

I find them next on a farm in Clay Co. Minnesota, just to the east of Fargo/Dilworth. Here Emil and Ella are born, before they move again to homestead near Holt, Marshall Co. Minnesota c.1888. Twins are born to them in April 1889, but neither survived. Lewis lives for 4 months and Herman 5 months. Another set of twins was born 13 September 1891. One survived, Hilda who lived for 82 years.

Father John died in 1894 at the age of 51 of unknown causes. His burial place is unknown to me. Mother Carolina sold the farm to son John in 1904 and died in Minneapolis in 1916 (unconfirmed).
